Onboarding

Start fast, deepen step by step

No long rollout: you start with a quick baseline safeguard and build functional verification release by release.

  1. Set up the Mission Base

Create the Mission Base and connections to your data sources.

  2. Baseline safeguard

Regression tests against the baseline, runnable immediately.

  3. Functional verification

Rule sets for changed fields, release by release.

  4. Run, analyse, iterate

Classify deviations, results into the test management system.

Test cycle

The test cycle in SQACE

SQACE derives the expected results from explicit rules and compares them with the actuals. Six steps lead from the data object to an understood finding. Expand a step for the details.

Build queries for the actual results to test

You identify the data objects to check: tables, files or web-service endpoints. For each, you define a visual query for the actual results with an Easy Query, which is enough in most cases. More complex, multi-step data preparation can be modelled as workflows.

Build the baseline safeguard

For the regression test you query the results of the previous version. You store a release’s result data directly in the SQACE storage and reuse it as the baseline for the next release. Comparisons are built per data object by drag-and-drop, with tolerances and more. The baseline safeguard then stands in a fraction of the usual time.

Create rule sets and generate expected results

For new and changed fields you create executable business rule sets and validate them directly against freely chosen data, including uploaded spreadsheets. Rule mappers turn them into expected results, in SQACE, in an external database or in a file. You lower risk by covering critical fields with rule sets and extending that coverage over time.

Set up expected-vs-actual comparisons for verification

For verification, SQACE offers a dedicated comparison component: for every expected value it also shows the rule that produced it. You set up the rule-based comparison just as easily as a normal expected-vs-actual comparison, by dragging expected and actual results into the component. Tolerances and further details are configurable.

Run test suites

In the Launch Pad you bundle tests into test suites, adapt them and run them parameterised: manually, scheduled or triggered by your test management system or a CI/CD pipeline.

Understand and assess the results

For each test SQACE provides a dashboard that shows deviations by scope and criticality. Drill down to field level, and for verification comparisons down to rule level. Automatic categorisation assigns deviations by standard patterns and by your patterns from earlier runs. You only categorise the remaining deviations and turn them into findings, transferred into the test management system.

Building blocks

One verification method, freely composable.

Every step, from querying data through comparison to the test report, is an executable test building block (Action). Building blocks chain together: the output of one is the input of the next. Complex verification logic emerges through combination, not through code, and stays comprehensible for business and IT alike.

Once defined, the workflow runs automatically as often as needed. How SQACE connects and runs securely is shown in Security & architecture.

Analysis

Explore and analyse your data

Beyond testing, SQACE is an analysis environment for your data, entirely without SQL.

With the Easy Query you assemble complex queries across multiple sources visually. An Easy Query is built from blocks: source-data blocks reference tables, files, web services or other Easy Queries. On top of them you place operation blocks that transform the data step by step, open to business experts and IT alike.

Row operations

Filter, deduplicate or select specifically.

Grouping operations

Grouping, pivot and unpivot.

Column operations

Compute, exclude, apply rule mapping.

Combine data from blocks

Join, union, minus and intersect across two input blocks.

Notable features

  • Run each block individually and inspect the intermediate result.
  • Extract parts of a query into their own query with one click.
  • Automatic join suggestions.
  • Pull columns up from source blocks across multiple levels with one click.
  • Run any query as a run: the result is stored automatically in the SQACE storage.

With SQL

Full control for technical users

The visual approach is no limitation. SQACE generates the matching SQL for every Easy Query: transparent and verifiable. Those who prefer SQL see every step directly and extend it with their own. Plus: a data profile at the push of a button, column info for every column, and export to Excel.
